We don’t realise how good we’ve got it.

The fact we’re not currently battling extreme climatic chaos is pretty great. So is the fact that the small island we live on offers us so much to put on screen.

Question: Would you be surprised to know the image above was taken in Essex??

Answer: Yes!! (You were thinking more Maldives vibes right!?)

Embarking on production in a sustainable way is becoming increasingly important with a mandate for the industry to cut its carbon emissions in half by 2030. The biggest win in this pursuit is to STOP FLYING.

Many production companies “compensate” for air travel by planting trees, which theoretically will make them even-steven in about 30 years time, which doesn’t really help given we must half our greenhouse gas emissions by 2030.

It’s time to open our eyes to the opportunities available to crews “on our doorstep”. Beautiful beaches (that can easily have palm trees dressed in to them) tulip fields & windmills that give more than just a nod to the beauty of The Netherlands, miles of dapply lit forests, eye-watering heritage buildings in the likes of Cambridge, Saffron Walden and Lavenham, marshes that have masqueraded as Korean paddy fields for more than one Hollywood production, a studio set up as a permanent replica Oval Office, world war trenches, vehicles & memorabilia, highly contemporary architecture, continental looking markets, vineyards, railways, roads, lakes, castles…the list goes on.

Close Up East practices what it preaches. Paper free productions, sustainable waste management, no red meat in our catering, compostable containers, no plastic bottles, environmentally friendly equipment, re-chargeable batteries and electric vehicles are just a few of the approaches we have adopted as standard in our productions. Every little helps.
